Dr. Carlos Rivas, M.D.
Dr Carlos Rivas is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. He graduated with honors from the prestigious Georgetown University Medical School in Washington, D.C. where he obtained his Medical Doctor degree.
He then returned home to the Silicon Valley for his residency and he completed his training and Board Certification in Internal Medicine at Highland Hospital in Oakland.
He went on to experience positions in conventional medicine out-patient clinics where he provided primary care in internal medicine.
He attended the University of California at Berkeley when he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Bioengineering.
As Dr Carlos states: “I’ve always been a “problem solver”. I saw in conventional medicine that we had treatment approaches to address symptoms, but often we were not identifying and resolving the underlying problem. Over time, I became convinced that if I wanted to maximize the benefits I could provide to patients, I needed to expand the repertoire of quantitative diagnostics I was using. I needed to look deeper into my patients’ physiology, and I also needed to broaden the armamentarium of therapeutics being recommended. What was needed was to include additional evidence-based therapies that were being under-utilized in most conventional clinics. Functional Medicine provides the best scientific framework for this, integrating and expanding on what is available conventionally.”
Needless to say, when Dr Rivas found us here at Root Cause Medical Clinic, he knew he had found the team he was looking for.
A native of Silicon Valley, Carlos was born in San Francisco to two Salvadoran parents. He grew up in Fremont and Union City. He speaks Spanish fluently.
When not seeing patients Dr Carlos enjoys hiking, cycling, reading, going to church, and spending a lot of time with his very large family. He jokes that his family is so large that any given weekend has multiple family get togethers.
